Manas – Alochana
Manas has no place or location in our body. It is created as the mind functions. Great is the functioning of mind, great is the level of Manas created. If mind functioning stops, Manas functioning stops. That is why Ramana Maharshi asks kim swaroopa miti, aatma darshane.
Actually what is the manas????
Manas is not heart. Manas is the other side of the coin. Actually there is no place to this Manas.
If we look at anything, buddhi is there, but Manas thinks a lot. For example, if we see a lot of money, buddhi understands that it is money. But Manas won’t stay there. It thinks a lot. Many thoughts prevail around it.
If that money belongs to it, it will be very happy.
It can buy that and this.
It can visit places.
It feels that it is more logical.
He can become a leader.
So on and so on.
It is guided by buddhi that doing so and so is wrong. But Manas won’t listen to it. It tries to enter in other’s goodwill. It wants to rob others belongings, joys, etc. tries to be a part of it. For that it pays a lot. Duryodhana enters the fate of Pandavas and take their joy. He did. What happened in the end? He lost everything. Millions of people died. What did he achieve? Nothing.
Manas is such a thing it can never accept to what is happening because of its fault. It not only destroys that man but also people concerned to that thing. It is always mad after temporary benefits.
Manas holds steadfast to gloominess than happiness. That is why coming out of gloominess is very difficult.
Manas is virtual. So it likes virtual things. It likes imaginary things. If we take our own case, my parents gave birth to me.
They have no planning how to develop a child.
How to treat their child?
Even if they do not know from where to take guidance?
If they do not know follow what that boy says?
They have only ego. Nothing.
To cover their ignorance they cover the discussion using seniority.
In bhakti, we do decorations, sounds, smoke, and many more. This is all karma. Actions won’t lead us to punyam or gnanam. Ganam wants understanding. It is not in temples, worshipping methods, dresses, egos, the size of the idols, the decorations, how much we have spent for various things, but it lies in dedication. It is not a physical exercise going around temple hundred times. It is not the body but Manas that should go around.
Manas should remember that all its domination is when we are awake. If the body sleeps, manas has nothing to do.
